DUESENBERG SHOWCASED IN 30TH YEAR! Model

souderAnother Classic Car year 2010, and another year to wonder “What can I possibly do this year to bring the “wow” factor to such a distinguished automobile as the Duesenberg – Model J?”. Once again, John Souder  has surpassed our expectations!

Watching this process from my perspective is a fascinating event each year. John is a true artist who loves what he does and then puts it on “canvas” for our enjoyment. He promises each year that he can’t possibly top last year. I find that totally amusing because every year he brings us another award winning poster.  Many of us have wanted to pick his brain and learn – how does this happen? Do you think about it late into the night? Do you dream about it? Or does it just pop into your mind? When John, where were you, what  clicked? Being the true renaissance personality he is, you will note, John does everything with a deliberate calculation, quite unlike the typical spontaneous laid back artist. And so my friends, the true brilliance of our poster artist shines through.

It began with research. He started with learning that this year would be the Model J Duesenberg. He then looked for information on that specific classic vehicle via the Internet, library and museum itself. This year he saw an advertisement in a magazine that started the rest of the process. His next step took place at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum to take pictures of cars with super charger pipes, a necessary part of the Model J. The third leg of his artistic journey involved the art deco theme indicative of that time. Once the material had been collected, the rest just fell together. John says the color theme begins in his mind as he sees the poster emerge on the screen. It encompasses the era, and a combination of what will bring that “pop” and “wow” from the crowd.

When you stand and study the poster, the subtle purples, teals, blues, white and black work together  magically to draw us in. Once again, John has brought us all another year of classic car excellence showcased in its art deco period. He has used colors that enhance our desire to crawl inside and experience the rich history it so magnificently deserves. Thirty years of excellence. Thirty years of illustrating his love of the automobile. Thirty years of tirelessly bringing his expertise to showcase the World’s love for the classic cars, from a classic Midwestern town by the name of Auburn. Who knew? Thank you John Souder for teaching us about volunteerism and how proud we need to be of our community and  what it has to offer. True excellence comes when you are doing your personal best for others.
